Narrative Panorama

The title of this artwork is “The Great Escape”. The artwork represents this title because the character is shown climbing over the fence in many positions. The photo shows adventure and mischievous behaviors as the character is shown multiple times in the panorama in some comical positions.

The story being told by this panorama takes place in the summer. The kids went on many adventures, finding new paths and making the most of their days. They often “escaped” their boring houses over the fence to find enjoyable tings to like new hiking trails or places to explore.

A panorama in this sense is several different images put together to create one single bigger image. This gives a broader depth of field and a different perspective. When the single photos are lined up together, it won’t always look completely realistic but it gives a wide angle representation and different view. We created panoramas by using a film camera to shoot different photographs then moving then camera slightly and taking more photos. After processing the film and printing the best photos, they were cut and lined up appropriately to create a larger single image.

Some challenges arose when creating these panoramas. When shooting, you had to ensure that the camera was moved appropriately as so the photos would line up nicely. One difficulty is making sure each print made was the same color tones as the others. If one print was too dark or too light it wouldn’t match and the photos wouldn’t flow together. Getting prints that all looked the same tone wise was a trial and error process, constantly making multiple prints until you got a successful one.
