Chaos Artist Statement
The word chaos refers to complete disorder and confusion. Highschool can be an extremely chaotic time for teenagers. They have to deal with pressure from parents, teachers, and their peers, all to meet expectations and achieve at high standards. This can put a huge amount of stress of these students as the work loads and important decisions like colleges pile up. My photo represents a highschool girl in distress over a huge amount of workload as well as more pressure from her parents being shoved at her.
I was inspired for this concept by first hand dealing stress and anxiety from the chaos that high school brings on. You are expected to perform well at all times on your report card and on every assignment, it is insanely overwhelming. My process of taking this photo required an excessive amount of homework and papers spread out across a table with a girl looking stressed out by all of it around her. I also wanted to include parents in the background shoving a report card and more papers in her face to show that the chaos of school doesn’t only come from teachers or homework but also the weight from parents to perform well. The young girl’s body language shows she is stressed out and the parents have their hands on the hips to show disapprovement.
While taking this photo I was reminded of how the chaos of workload and assignments can have an affect on students. Most people feel a lot of stress or even anxiety which is hard to deal with. Students shouldn’t have to feel this much pressure all the time but sadly it’s a commonly occurring issue.
